The nine-year-old Bruno does not know anything about the final solution of the Jewish issue. He is not aware of the atrocities and unprecedented cruelty of the Germans applied against the population of Europe. All that the boy knows is that he was torn from his comfortable home in Berlin to this new home, in a deserted area, where he could not even play with anyone. This continues until he meets Shmuel, a boy born with Bruno on the same day, but living as if in a parallel reality, behind an endless barbed-wire fence where all people wear the same striped pajamas. The novel was immediately nominated for two dozen literary awards and is now published in more than 50 languages.

The book makes an ambiguous impression. On the one hand, everything is so childishly at ease. Reading the book, you will see the world through the eyes of a 9-year-old child who does not quite understand what is going on around him. He thinks that the camp outside his window is a village where there are cafes and shops, and grandparents are sitting in rocking chairs. But finding himself in this world, he quickly realizes that not everything is as colorful as he drew himself.

On the other hand, there is nothing good and merry about it. All these terrible things that they did to people and in what conditions they were kept. This contrast is clearly visible throughout the book. Particularly frightening is that the story is illustrated by the example of two boys who were even born on the same day.

The book "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas" is not just a work about people's lives, war, camps and acts of people who had to survive in the atmosphere of this horror but much more. It is about children, the will of the fate of those who fell into the hell of the Second World War. The book provides a chance to think hard about everything that happened. It is a very emotional piece of working, which can't leave anyone indifferent. It is read with interest and quite quickly thanks to the style and manner of the presentation of D. Boyne.

It is difficult to find words to describe the impression, which the book makes as it is a real masterpiece. This is a book that makes cry but anyway it is a work that is worth reading as people should always remember about that horrible period of time and the author also thought that to forget about such things is the highest manifestation of immorality and disrespect. That's why he presented this great book about the Holocaust.
